TOP TRICKS & TIPS
KNOW YOUR BREED
Some dog breeds need a bath more frequently than others, so it’s important to do your research to understand how often your pet should be bathed. This will enable you to plan ahead, and make sure your dog looks spick and span at all times!
CREATING A CALM ENVIRONMENT
Before you begin the wash, it’s useful to make the environment as relaxing as possible so that your dog learns to associate the experience with something positive. Things that help include preparing your dog’s coat in a way that doesn’t cause discomfort, and making sure you handle them gently – using water that is not too hot and not too cold. It’s also worth recognising when your dog is feeling agitated or uncomfortable, and acting accordingly when this happens.
BE GENTLE
When shampooing, take care to avoid sensitive areas like the eyes and face. Massage the shampoo into a lather, adding water when necessary. Let the shampoo sit on the dog’s coat for a few minutes, and then rinse with water. Following with a conditioner is great for breeds with coats that are prone to matting, and can help to give it a healthy shine.
DRY & HAPPY
Don’t forget to dry your dog! This keeps your pooch feeling comfortable and warm. A towel is best for this. Dogs with heavier coats should be dried thoroughly to prevent damp spots and the development of skin conditions.
